On the Rives du Morvan, water shapes the landscapes with infinite gentleness. Take advantage of the diversity of landscapes to follow its course. Between ponds and rivers, it delights walkers! From the rounded summits of the Morvan mountains to the valleys crossed by white water, discover our territory in another way by taking our thematic tours. Some will take you to the highest elevations of the Morvan des Sommets, with the common thread: water. Because the Morvan mountains also contribute to our well-being and our health by giving life to this natural and beneficial wealth. Did you know that it takes more than 20 years for spring water to travel the twenty kilometers that separate it from the thermal baths of Saint-Honoré-les-Bains and reveal its virtues?
Along the water, set off to discover the historical patrimony some Rives du Morvan. Following the rivers Garat et Guignon, you will visit Moulins-Engilbert, affectionately nicknamed the “ little Venice Morvandelle ". Gateway town to the Morvan Regional Natural Park, this ancient medieval town is labeled Green Station. It owes its name to the numerous mills which were established on the Garat and the Guignon. With its two rivers which water the town, its numerous canals, its pretty flowery streets and its picturesque old houses, it will appeal to lovers of walks and old stones.
Following the course of the Alène River , stop in Luzy , a veritable balcony overlooking the Morvan. In the heart of Green Burgundy, Luzy is surrounded by hills and natural meadows, offering incredible panoramic views of the high, wooded massif of Mont Beuvray. Take the Alène trail that runs alongside the river. This walk, enhanced with interpretive panels, will reveal all the secrets of this aquatic environment, a reservoir of biodiversity. Finally, once the seat of a powerful barony in the Middle Ages , Luzy invites you to discover its historical heritage, such as the Barons' Tower and its magnificent Aubusson tapestries.
Whether you stay in Cercy-la-Tour, located at the junction of the Canal du Nivernais and three rivers: the Alène, the Aron and the Canne, or in Châtillon-en-Bazois nestled on the banks of the Aron river, the The water will transport you to the discovery of heritage nuggets.

For open water swimming in a verdant setting, the Étang de la Chênaie in Montapas or the Plan d'eau du Marnant in La Nocle-Maulaix are sure to please. With equipped beaches, shaded natural areas, supervised summer swimming, and excellent water quality, experience all the benefits of swimming in a natural environment . And if you'd like to grab a bite or a drink, refreshments are available at the Chalet Buvette or the Guinguette du Moulin Marnant.

The municipal pools in Cercy-la-Tour , Luzy , Moulins-Engilbert , and Saint-Honoré-les-Bains offer a variety of options. During the summer season, they offer aquatic activities for the whole family : swimming lessons for beginners and advanced swimmers, aquagym, aquajumping, and more. There's something for all ages and tastes!
Our rivers are also ideal for water sports. On the Aron or the Arroux, following the current by paddleboard or canoe is an incredible source of pleasure and discovery. Enjoy a gourmet outing with local product tastings offered by Le Foudre du Bazois , or immerse yourself in nature at the Gîte du Moulin de Poil : experience a wealth of sensations and enjoy relaxing moments with family or friends!
Fancy a canoe or kayak trip down the Loire to get a closer look? Use the launch points at La Crevée (Charrin) or Thareau (Saint-Hilaire-Fontaine) and hop on the water! Setting off at dawn is the best time to observe the wildlife. Listen to the silence and keep your ears open… At first, not a sound, but soon the migratory birds and nature awaken.
Finally, fishing enthusiasts should head to the banks of the ponds and rivers classified as first or second category. The waters of southern Morvan are home to populations of brown trout and crayfish , which can be caught using nets. Beautiful first-category rivers, such as the Garat, the Guignon, the Dragne, and the Roche, will satisfy even the most experienced anglers and entertain the more adventurous.
