Ancient feudal fortress, the town of Cercy-la-Tour occupies a rocky spur offering remarkable panoramas of the town and its surroundings. Since the Cercy tower, the horizon extends endlessly between the Canal du Nivernais, the surrounding bocage and the Morvan mountains in the distance. Extend your walk until nightfall and admire the lighting of the ramparts and the statue of Notre Dame du Nivernais…A show worth seeing!

Take the “countryside” hiking trails to discover the bocage that serves as a setting for Cercy-la-Tour. Your route will be dotted with numerous panoramas dominating the entire valley and rich heritage discoveries, such as the Chevillon mill on the Cane.

Cyclists and hikers will take the towpath of the Cercy-la-Tour marina, to enjoy the atmosphere of the waterway, dotted with lock keepers' houses, works of art and bucolic landscapes.

Between old stones and rivers

Oppidum of “Cercacium” in the Gallo-Roman erathen feudal fortress in the Middle Ages, the town of Cercy-la-Tour has something to delight heritage lovers. Take Rue d'Aron towards the recently restored ramparts, which once protected this ancient stronghold. By going up this small steep street, more familiarly called “rue Casse-Cou”, you will reach the historic old town.

From the tower, an ancient keep of which only the base remains, admire the monumental statue of the Virgin Mary which dominates Cercy-la-Tour. On the Place d'Aligre, after visiting theSaint Peter's Church listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments, stop at the fountain, bearing the image of the Marquis and Marquise d'Aligre, former benefactors of the city.
