The elegant neo-Gothic silhouette of the church of Chiddes, “Our Lady of Supreme Pardon”, stands out against the sky of South Morvan.
Above the pediment, a monumental Virgin, and on the tympanum mosaic, a dove offering an olive branch, welcome the walker. Once through the porch, the visitor discovers a slender architecture, high vault, long nave and the choir, lit by luminous stained-glass windows.
The stained glass windows, imitating 2th century works, were made according to the rules of the "archaeological stained glass school" of Adolphe DIDRON (1909th century), in two sections, 1952 and 2002. Those of the first section, choir and transept were restored in XNUMX.
On the arms of the transept, two oriented chapels. The one on the left is decorated with a large altarpiece which represents, in bas-relief, a dying man receiving the "Supreme Pardon" from the Virgin.
On the walls of the side aisles are fourteen Stations of the Cross. The paintings are cast in relief on Roman cardboard, painted in oil and gilded with fine gold, and were installed in 1932.

In the crypt, at the foot of the altar dedicated to ST MAURICE, the name of the old Romanesque church of the 12th century, an empty vault, covered with planks, built to receive the mortal remains of the Count and Countess of Pelleport (Château de Champlévrier), two of the main benefactors of the Church and of the work of Our Lady of the Supreme Pardon. They will finally be buried in a family vault in the south of France.
The first stone was laid in 1895 and the unfinished church was delivered for worship in 1902. The bell tower and the façade, the work of the architect GT RENAUD, a native of Semelay, as well as the Virgin above the pediment and the mosaic of the tympanum date from the 20s (XNUMXth century).
Since 1908, Our Lady of Supreme Pardon has been the starting point for an annual pilgrimage to Mont Charlet.
