SAINT-HILAIRE-FONTAINE

The village is inseparable from the Loire navy. The hamlet of Port-Thareau was a necessary place of passage for the abundant traffic of boats shuttling on the river. The sand from the bed of the Loire was extracted for the glass factory of Fours. At the confluence of the Loire and the Cressonne, Thareau is now an essential site for nature activities. This portion of the last wild river in Europe is part of the Loire Bourguignonne Regional Nature Reserve.
