Saint-Gratien-Savigny is the result of the merger in 1840 of two former parishes.
The church of the new commune was built in the second half of the 19th century. Its bell tower was destroyed in 1942 when lightning struck the building. Since then, worship has continued, but without bells!
The building "La Marquise" is a model farm of 19th century architecture, nicknamed in homage to the wife of its designer.
The Canal du Nivernais crosses the south-east of the commune.
