This is where the Cressonne River joins the Loire after carving out the meadows of the South Morvan. The place is ideal for a picnic on the banks of the Loire, the last wild river in Europe.
In the past, this place was a necessary passage for the abundant traffic of boats that shuttled between Roanne and Nevers on the Loire. Sand was extracted from the bed of the Loire to supply the glass factory of Fours.
Boatmen, carpenters, coopers, merchants, ferrymen… an entire economy was in place and life was teeming in Thareau, then an independent parish.
Nowadays, the calm and quiet of the place have everything to charm passers-by, whether they are hikers, walkers or cyclists travelling the Eurovélo 6 tourist cycle route.
