Located in the Natura 2000 zone, this 22-hectare pond is home to a very lively life with the presence of numerous animals, aquatic insects, green frogs, migratory birds and a remarkable plant landscape opening onto the Morvan mountains.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the hamlet of Chèvres had a blast furnace intended for the manufacture of cast iron. It was only used two to three months a year, as the water in the pond was not abundant enough all year round. The building with its many chimneys served as housing for factory workers. The number of chimneys
indicates how many apartments there were at the time of the blast furnace. During the interwar period, the activity
leisure activities are developing. The large expanses of grass behind the current farm, on the left opposite the pond, hosted a golf course, frequented by spa guests from Saint-Honoré-les-Bains.
