Etang de Chèvres
Located in the Natura 2000 zone, this 22-hectare pond is home to a very lively life with the presence of numerous animals, aquatic insects, green frogs, migratory birds and a remarkable plant landscape opening onto the Morvan mountains.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the hamlet of Chèvres had a blast furnace for producing pig iron. It was only used for two to three months a year, as the pond's water supply was insufficient year-round. The building with its numerous chimneys served as housing for the factory workers. The number of chimneys indicates how many apartments there were at the time the blast furnace was in operation. During the interwar period, leisure activities developed. The large grassy areas behind the current farmhouse, to the left opposite the pond, were used for a golf course, frequented by spa visitors to Saint-Honoré-les-Bains.
Swimming and fishing are prohibited.
